BIO-CLEAN
Bio-Clean is a blend of bacteria and enzymes. The bacteria are natural, not genetically-engineered. The enzyme concentration is the most powerful on the market

 EFFECTIVE
Within an hour after pouring BIO-CLEAN into the drain, the bacteria begin to eat their way into the waste that has accumulated on the sides and top of the drain pipe. This is their natural food. They digest the waste and spread throughout your plumbing system, cleaning it completely.

HOW TO USE BIO-CLEAN
In Nature, all animal and vegetable matter, from insects to mighty oaks, are broken down and recycled into plant food by enzymes and bacteria. BIO-CLEAN uses this same principle to biodegrade animal and vegetable waste in pipes.

Like all living things, bacteria must eat to survive. Fortunately, BIO-CLEAN bacteria will use for food, the grease, hair, soap scum and all the organic waste that tend to clog your drains.

Enzymes act like short order cooks. They prepare food for bacteria by breaking large molecules down into a size the bacteria can "swallow." Each enzyme works on one specific type of molecule. For example, the protease enzyme only works on protein. Lipase works only on fats.

The bacteria in BIO-CLEAN are dormant while in the jar. When mixed with water they come to life in about 30 minutes. In the meantime the enzymes are breaking down the waste. They are very fast. In fact, they work on contact. When the bacteria revive, they are hungry. Each one eats its weight of waste every minute - and they never sleep. As a result of eating and growing, they start to multiply through cell division. Their number will double every 30 minutes under favorable conditions.

BIO-CLEAN should be mixed with warm (not hot) water and applied when no water will be drained for six to eight hours. This allows some of the bacteria time to embed themselves into the waste so they will not be washed out when water is draining again. Complete instructions are inside each container.

Periodic maintenance treatments prevent new organic waste build-up, so no more slow drains or clogs!
SEPTICS
Most septic systems in operation today are not functioning well. The tanks need pumping frequently because of solids build up. All to often the fields stop absorbing water prematurely. The number one reason is the vast array of household chemicals which either inhibit or kill biological action. The coliform bacteria normally present in sewage are in no way equal to present day demands. They are used to warm body temperatures and are poor enzyme producers. They cannot handle synthetic materials present in detergents even under the best conditions.

BIO-CLEAN contains not only potent enzymes, but also contains bacteria that outperform the coliform species in very important ways. They are high producers of enzymes, and they are acclimated so they feed on a larger variety of materials in the waste, such as fats and grease, vegetable oil, paper, detergents, fabric softeners, aliphatic and aromatic organic compounds as well as synthetic organics.

Chemicals, bleaches, detergents, food preservatives and bowl cleaners inhibit or kill bacterial action within your system. This lets solids accumulate in the tank, some of which flow out and clog the drain field. BIO-CLEAN will restore the necessary bacterial action and make your system work at full efficiency!

• People on a septic system must select their cleaning products carefully.

GARBAGE DISPOSALS
Odors come from waste that sticks to the disposal wall and slowly molds and rots. It is hurled there by the high speed rotating blades. By following BIO-CLEAN instructions, this waste will be quickly digested by the live cultures, thus eliminating the odor.

GREASE TRAPS
Cleaning out a grease trap is the worst of jobs in a food service operation. After the horrible odorous muck is removed it still has to be disposed of. Unfortunately, we are running out of landfills to put it in. BIO-CLEAN will digest the grease, eliminating the unwanted task, as well as the disposal of the pollutant. Of course, the grease trap must be large enough to accomplish two things. The flow of the water through the trap must be 1) slowed and 2) cooled, so that the oils and fats can rise and be retained between the baffles while the water continues on down the sewer. Also, a garbage disposal should never discharge into a grease trap. If these criteria are met, daily treatment of the pot sink will maintain the digestive action. By eliminating the need to pump the trap, a significant cost savings results.

SUMPS WITH PUMPS
When ground water accumulates in sumps, odors may be noticeable. This is especially true if household or sanitary waste is present. BIO-CLEAN eliminates the odor by quickly digesting organic material in the waste water. Pumps will require less energy when the rotor, housing and lines are free of build up. Lower energy costs and longer pump life are added bonuses for using BIO-CLEAN.

OUTHOUSES AND VAULTS
Mention an outhouse and the first thing that pops to mind is ODOR. BIO-CLEAN turns the waste into water and carbon dioxide very quickly. This dramatically reduces odor and flies. Cleaning and disposal of the pit become easier and it is more pleasant for the user, too.

R.V. & BOAT HOLDING TANKS
As the waste water level increases in the tank, scum will adhere to the sides and sensor. When the tank is drained, more scum is deposited. With continued use, this coating becomes odorous. It also adds weight and reduces tank capacity. Since there is no large access to the tanks, the build-up can become so great that clean-up will be more difficult and time consuming. Replacing the tank is often less expensive.

R.V.ers using chemicals in their tank are also encountering the new problem of not being able to dispose of their chemically treated waste at many dump stations. Waste water treatment plants do not want this chemical toxicity in their plants, so they charge dump stations large fines.

If BIO-CLEAN is used from the beginning, a tank will drain cleanly, including the sensor, if there is one. Using BIO-CLEAN in a tank previously treated with chemicals will take larger doses and some time to overcome toxicity. It will, however, remove the old build-up. Waste from tanks treated with BIO-CLEAN is accepted anywhere because it is biologically active.

Questions and Answers

How can such a small amount of BIO-CLEAN be effective in plumbing?

There are millions and millions of bacteria in each spoonful. Each one will eat its weight of waste every 60 seconds. They double in number every 30 minutes, and as they multiply, they will spread throughout the entire drain system.
Will it work on a clog?

If the material is biodegradable, yes.

However , in most cases, the stoppage is not caused by a blob of something in the trap. Most likely, it is several feet of pipe that is filled up with "gunk", and it may take several days for the bacteria to eat through the blockage. Therefore, it is suggested that a mechanical cable be used to restore the flow. Then begin BIO-CLEAN treatments to remove any remaining waste build-up. Regular maintenance treatments will prevent new build-up.
How long will it take to see the results?

Some people notice improvement in a day or two. Almost everyone will see results in one to three weeks. Note: The cleaning process is not completed with the initial five day treatment. The time is determined by the type of material the build-up is comprised of (grease, soap, hair, and the length of the lines). Hair takes the longest to digest.
Should the toilet be flushed after pouring BIO-CLEAN into the bowl?

Do not flush for 6-8 hours. It is best to apply treatment before going to bed or when you leave for work. The quart of mixture poured into the bowl pushes one quart of water and mixture out of the bowl into the stack. The enzymes and bacteria carried out in the quart leaving the bowl are deposited on the gunk coating the pipe. In the following 6-8 hours, they embed themselves in the gunk so that when the toilet is next flushed, they will not be flushed out.
Aren't chemical drain openers much stronger than BIO-CLEAN?

The strongest chemical in the world can not climb the side walls of horizontal pipes. Gravity makes all chemicals run along the bottom. Nor can chemicals remove much waste in vertical pipes because they flow so quickly. The bacteria in BIO-CLEAN are live and will go anywhere there is food. They will remove the gunk chemicals leave behind.
Does BIO-CLEAN contain any acid, lye, solvents, perfume or poisionous substances?

NO
Will BIO-CLEAN attack tree roots?

Only roots that are completely dead. Roots enter sewer pipes seeking the rich organic food supplied by the build-up. As roots feed on the waste they grow, branch out and eventually restrict flow. Periodic use of enough BIO-CLEAN and water to reach the root area will eliminate the waste they seek. In this manner, the use of BIO-CLEAN discourages root growth in sewers.
Can BIO-CLEAN really help a septic system?

Absolutely - in several ways. The bacteria in BIO-CLEAN are specially selected to digest a larger variety of waste, and metabolize it faster than naturally occuring bacteria or yeast additives. Oils, fats, grease and paper are very difficult for intestinal bacteria to handle. BIO-CLEAN is very effective on these materials. It increases solids destruction, so fewer pumpings are needed and that means money saved.

More complete digestion also means fewer undigested solids leaving the tank. These solids would otherwise form a black gooey accumulation in the leach field and prevent water absorption by the soil. Therefore, BIO-CLEAN extends the life of a leach field.
Are any chemicals incompatible with septic systems?

Yes, chlorine, germicidal products, anti-septics, sanitizers, chemical drain openers, paint, lye, acids, cationic surfactants and food preservatives. Also, in general, anything that is inorganic (not biodegradable).
Does a garbage disposal and/or automatic dishwasher affect a septic system?

Yes - in two ways. Disposals add greater loads. Without frequent BIO-CLEAN treatments, faster accumulation of solids in the tank occurs. Most automatic dishwashing compounds, either powder or gel, contain chlorine, which is damaging to all biological activity. For the least overall problems, do not use the disposal for material that could go into solid waste or be composted. Use non-chlorinated, biodegradable dishwashing compound and treat regularly with BIO-CLEAN.
Does BIO-CLEAN stop odors?

Yes, by digesting the waste which is the source of odor.
Does BIO-CLEAN digest hair?

Yes. However, it takes much longer than most any other organic material. In drains, soap scum, skin oils, etc. bond hair to pipe surfaces. BIO-CLEAN digests these other materials more quickly, which releases the hair to wash downstream.
How does BIO-CLEAN compare with liquid biological products?

BIO-CLEAN is more concentrated, more uniform, more stable (longer shelf life) and more economical. Liquids depend upon preservatives to keep the bacteria dormant while in the bottle. Most have a high percent of surfactant to emulsify oils and fats, not digest them. Enzymes in solution interact with each other, which results in shorter shelf life and/or a single enzyme product.
Does BIO-CLEAN stop odors coming from a cat litter pan?

Definitely.

Best results can be obtained by washing and drying the pan and then sprinkling the bottom with BIO-CLEAN. Then add new litter and sprinkle the top with BIO-CLEAN.
What is the shelf life of BIO-CLEAN?

Several years if kept dry at normal temperature.
Environmentally, does BIO-CLEAN help or hurt?

BIO-CLEAN is a great help and in no way hurts the ecology. The active ingredients in BIO-CLEAN are enzymes and bacteria which speed up the natural digestion of organic material. This is the only process that recycles organic waste back to plant life. BIO-CLEAN is not harmful to pets or marine life. It is so safe a child can apply it. Because its action is natural, it enhances nature's ability to cope with man's pollution.

BIO-CLEAN INSTRUCTIONS

HOME DRAINS

Totally blocked pipe: Get the drain to take water using plunger or cable. If it can not be cabled, add 1 Tbsp. in 1 pint of water each day. Use a plunger daily. Since the bacteria must eat through the length of the blockage this could take days or even weeks (but that’s better than replacing your pipes!)

If extended treatment and plunging do not restore full flow, some inorganic matter (e.g. toy, glass, toothbrush, bobby pins) is in the line and will have to be removed manually.

INITIAL TREATMENT

Always apply Bio-Clean when drains will not be used for 6 to 8 hours (at bedtime for example). Apply Bio-Clean to each drain for 5 consecutive days. If a drain remains sluggish, extend treatment a few more days before going to maintenance schedule.

Mix recommended amount with water: 1 pint water per tablespoon used. Lukewarm water is best – never hot.

Floor drains, washing machine drains, and toilets - Apply 2 tablespoons and add 2 pints lukewarm water.

All other drains -  Apply 1 tablespoon and 1 pint of water.

 MAINTENANCE

Apply Bio-Clean once a month. Mix the required amount of  Bio-Clean with lukewarm water. Amount used is the same as in initial treatment.

Never use other drain products while using Bio-Clean.

On multi-story buildings start initial treatment on the lowest level (e.g. basement) and progress to the top. Complete the 5 day treatment on one floor before going to the next highest floor.

Flow will improve within 1 to 3 weeks. During this time a stoppage may occur due to chunks of waste loosened. Use plunger or cable to restore flow. Do not become discouraged this means Bio-Clean is removing the build-up and with periodic treatments will prevent re-accumulation.

Mouthwash should be disposed of into toilet.

Hair digests very slowly and sometimes builds up in great quantities. Severe build up may require daily treatment for thirty to sixty days, unless the bulk of the blockage is first removed manually. Once removed manually or with extended treatment, regular maintenance applications will keep hair deposits from reforming.

When garbage disposal, dishwasher or washing machine is connected to septic: One Tbsp. of Bio-Clean in 1 pint water should be added each WEEK to each of these drains.

Very hard water causes slime in toilet tanks.  To eliminate add 2 Tbsp. as needed Do not flush for several hours.

GARBAGE DISPOSAL ODORS

Mix 1 tablespoon Bio-Clean with 1 pint water.  Turn on disposal. Dump mixture in and quickly turn off disposal.  Do not run for several hours.  Repeat as needed.

SEPTIC TANKS, CESSPOOLS

INITIAL TREATMENT

From the chart below determine the amount of Bio-Clean for your tank.  Each week for four weeks, add product to the toilet and flush.

Tanks Size        Amt. Bio-Clean
500 gallon          1/2 cup
1,000 gallon        1 cup
1,500 gallon        1 1/2 cup
(cesspools: double the amount of Bio-Clean)

MAINTENANCE TREATMENTS

Add 1 cup of Bio-Clean monthly.  Pour product into toilet and flush.

Special Cases
If you have backups, ponding, or odors you may need to pump BEFORE adding Bio-Clean.  Check your tank. If it has a hard crust more than six inches thick OR more than 12 inches build-up on the bottom, pump first.  Break up crusts less than six inches and slosh initial treatment over the top.

Wait 2 - 3 weeks after each pumping before adding product.

Many house hold products kill the bacteria your system MUST HAVE.  Please ask the company you purchased Bio-Clean from for the leaflet "How To Stop Killing The Biological Action In Your Septic System/Cesspool".  Using Biodegradable cleaners helps your tank/cesspool work better.

If You Have Well Water:  Acid water is very detrimental to biological action and plumbing.  You can prevent costly repair bills by contacting us if you have acid well water.

SEPTIC FIELDS

Absorption fields may be restored by treating the distribution box or the lateral lines.  Nothing is more effective for biodegrading waste in septic systems than Bio-Clean.  But no product can fix mechanical problems.   We recommend Bio-Clean as part of a program of preventative maintenance which includes regular inspection of the tanks and baffles, and the proper use of water and drainage systems.

CAT BOX ODORS, RV'S BOATS AND OUTHOUSES

Cat litter Boxes:  Sprinkle 1/8" Bio-Clean in bottom of Pan.  Add litter.  Sprinkle another 1/8" on tip.  Add more as needed.

Motor Homes, Boats:  After first use of facilities, sprinkle 1 Tbsp. into the toilet (2Tbsp. for 3 or more people).  This will last until tank is full (up to 5 days).  If an odor is noticed before dumping occurs, an additional 1 Tbsp. may be used.

Outhouses (residential):  Mix 1 cup of Bio-Clean in 1 Gal. water.  Pour over the waste using a sprinkling can.  Keep waste wet by spraying periodically with clear water.  Treat once a month with 1/2 cup of Bio-Clean in 1/2 gal. of water.
